My name is Freya and I am based in Hobart, Tasmania but you may have come across moon unit reversible pinafores at the Lyttelton Market in Christchurch. My husband, baby daughter and I have temporarily relocated from our home in Lyttelton (until the shaking ground under Christchurch lies calm).
With more time at home after the arrival of my daughter Josie, I started working on Moon Unit. When I started moon unit I intended to products made and/or designed by me, but had a goal of expanding to sell handmade, and upcycled goods made by other like minded and crafty people. I miss New Zealand and the vibrant art and craft scene that exists over there. I hope to bring you some work from Kiwi crafters as well as time goes by. See my Makers Intro’s below the items description for more on the talented crafty people who are part of the expanding Moon Unit community. These clever crafter’s include Miss P, Marmalade for Me, Petite Merveille, and Nancy Williams.
Additionally, I have worked with lovely and incredibly skilled family tailor, Mrs Ly, of the Ly Cloth Shop in Hoi An, Vietnam to bring you a number of pieces including…most exciting….some clothes for adult Moon Units. The clothes sewn by Mrs Ly are high quality, with beautiful workmanship made from linen, wool and cotton. Prior to sale, the base garments get a smidge more work done on them by yours truly such that they are individual and maintain the Moon Unit signature look.
Moon unit products are made using a combination of new, vintage style fabrics, upcycled materials, redesigned op-shop items including man’s shirts, linen and nanna stylings of all kinds.
